Short answer: categories are organised into three groups. Salon Awards cover hair salons, beauty salons and wellness studios (27 named categories). Beauty & Cosmetics Awards cover product brands and clinics (haircare, cosmetics & skincare, aesthetic clinics, organic beauty — 60 categories). Professional Awards recognise individuals. All are free to nominate.

How the three groups differ
Salon Awards evaluate a physical service business — a hair salon, beauty studio, nail bar, barbershop or wellness studio. The jury is looking at what happens when a client actually walks in: the quality and consistency of the service itself, the standard of the space, how the team is trained, and how the whole visit is designed from booking through to aftercare. A salon nomination succeeds or fails on operational evidence — reviews, retention, before/after work, staff credentials — not on how the business markets itself.
Beauty & Cosmetics Awards evaluate a product or a treatment-led business rather than a walk-in service — a skincare line, a haircare brand, an aesthetic clinic, an organic beauty company. Here the jury weighs formulation and safety, customer trust signals, innovation, and (for clinics) treatment quality and practitioner qualifications, alongside sourcing and sustainability practice where it's claimed. A brand nomination succeeds on product and business evidence rather than salon-floor evidence, even where the two overlap — a skincare brand sold through spas, for instance, is judged as a brand, while the spa carrying it would be judged separately as a salon.
Professional Awards evaluate an individual rather than a business — the stylist, colourist, artist, therapist, owner, manager or trainer whose personal skill, judgement and career the jury is assessing. A professional nomination stands on the individual's own portfolio, training, client relationships and career milestones; it can be entered alongside a business nomination for the same salon or brand, but it is judged entirely separately and the title, once won, belongs to the person rather than the employer.
Most real nominations end up spanning more than one group — a salon owner nominating their business under Salon Awards and themselves under Professional Awards, or a skincare brand entering under Beauty & Cosmetics Awards while its founder enters the Golden Entrepreneur Awards. That's by design: the categories are built so a genuine achievement can be recognised from every angle it actually happened, rather than forcing one nomination to carry the whole story.
Choosing between two categories that both seem to fit
It's common for a business to plausibly qualify for more than one category — a multi-service beauty salon that also does nails, for example, or a haircare brand with a strong sustainability angle that could enter under either the haircare sector or the organic/natural sector. When that happens, the rule of thumb is to enter under whichever category your strongest, most specific evidence actually supports, rather than the category that sounds most prestigious or most broadly applicable. A nomination backed by detailed, concrete evidence for a narrower category will consistently out-perform a thinly-supported nomination for a broader one, because the jury scores what's actually submitted, not the category label itself.
If genuine uncertainty remains after that, the nomination form lets you propose a category and the Golden Tree research team confirms the closest fit during the internal review stage that follows every submission — so a borderline call at nomination time does not disqualify a nomination outright. The Find My Award tool is built for exactly this kind of decision and takes about thirty seconds to run.

Categories — FAQs
How many award categories does World Salon Awards have?
27 named categories across Hair Salon, Beauty Salon and Wellness Salon groups, plus 60 categories across four Beauty & Cosmetics brand sectors, and dedicated Professional and Leadership categories for individuals.
Can I enter more than one category?
Yes. A salon and its owner, or a brand and its founder, are commonly nominated together — each nomination is free and assessed on its own.
Is it free to nominate for World Salon Awards 2027?
Yes. Submitting a nomination for World Salon Awards 2027 is free. No nomination charge applies.
Who decides the final category if more than one seems to fit?
You propose a category on the form; the Golden Tree research team confirms the closest fit during the internal review stage.
Are the categories the same every year?
The 2027 category structure follows the same published groups as previous cycles; the awards team can confirm the current list at the time you nominate.
Is there a category for a brand new salon?
Yes — Best New Hair Salon Opening exists for properties under three years old, alongside Rising Talent in Hair for early-career professionals.
What if my business doesn't fit any category exactly?
Choose the closest match and describe your business in the nomination; the research team helps confirm fit during review.
Is the evaluation merit-based, or is there a public vote?
Evaluation is merit-based. An independent jury of beauty industry professionals scores each shortlisted nomination against the published criteria; sponsorship, advertising spend and gala ticket purchases have no influence on jury decisions.
Are Salon Awards, Beauty & Cosmetics Awards and Professional Awards judged by the same jury?
The published evaluation criteria and merit-based approach are consistent across all three groups; the jury draws on senior beauty industry professionals with relevant expertise for each group being assessed.
Is there a category for a business that spans more than one group, like a spa attached to a hotel?
Enter under whichever group your strongest operational evidence supports — typically the salon/service side for a spa — and describe the fuller context in the nomination; the research team can advise on edge cases.
Is World Salon Awards open to salons and brands outside the Middle East?
Yes. World Salon Awards is genuinely global — hair salons, beauty salons, nail studios, barbershops, cosmetics brands and individual professionals from any country are eligible, with categories judged at city, country, regional and world level.
