General eligibility principles
- Self-nominations and third-party nominations are both accepted, judged on the same criteria
- Geographic restrictions do not apply — salons, brands and professionals from any country may apply
- Categories operate at city, country, regional and world competition levels
- There is no cost to enter, so budget is never a factor in eligibility
The trading-history question, answered properly
Trading history comes up more than almost any other eligibility question, so it's worth being precise about it. For the large majority of categories across all three groups — Salon Awards, Beauty & Cosmetics Awards and Professional Awards — there is no minimum trading history at all: a business open for six months with strong, documented evidence is exactly as eligible as one that's been operating for twenty years. The two specific exceptions exist for a reason rather than as a general rule: Best New Hair Salon Opening is deliberately reserved for salons open under three years, so newly-opened businesses compete against genuinely comparable peers rather than against established operations; Rising Talent in Hair is reserved for professionals within their first five years of career, for the same reason on the individual side. Both exceptions exist to help younger businesses and careers, not to exclude them — they're a separate lane, not a barrier.
What this means practically is that a brand-new salon or an early-career professional generally has more entry points, not fewer: the standard categories (with no trading-history requirement) remain open, plus the dedicated new-opening or rising-talent category becomes available specifically because of that early stage. The only scenario where trading history genuinely limits eligibility is the reverse — an established, multi-year business or a fifteen-year veteran professional wouldn't be eligible for the new-opening or rising-talent categories themselves, since those are reserved for the earlier stage they're designed to recognise.
What eligibility does not require
It's equally useful to be clear about what does not gate eligibility, since several assumptions come up repeatedly that aren't actually requirements. There is no minimum business size, revenue threshold, or staff count for any category. There is no requirement to have a website, a specific social media following, or professional photography, though good photography strengthens a nomination once submitted. There is no requirement for prior awards, press coverage, or industry certification, though any of these are useful supporting evidence where they exist. And there is no cost of any kind — nominating is free at every stage, so no business or professional is excluded on budget grounds, which is one of the more deliberate design choices behind how this programme runs compared to pay-to-enter alternatives elsewhere in the industry.
Geographic eligibility, in practice
"Genuinely global" is a claim worth unpacking rather than taking on faith. In practice, it means three things: there is no country list a business or professional needs to appear on to qualify (as opposed to a programme that only accepts entries from a defined set of markets); the same published criteria apply regardless of where a nomination is submitted from, rather than a looser or stricter standard for any particular region; and the level a category runs at — city, country, regional or world — is chosen to fit the actual scope of the business, not assigned by geography alone. A single-location salon in a small city and a single-location salon in a global capital are both eligible at the city or country level appropriate to their own market; neither is disadvantaged by the size or profile of the market they happen to operate in, because the comparison set is always other businesses at a genuinely similar scope.
This matters in particular for markets that don't always get equal attention from international recognition programmes. A well-documented independent salon in a smaller market has exactly the same eligibility and the same evaluation standard as an equivalent business in a market the beauty industry talks about more often — the criteria don't shift based on how prominent a given country or city is within the wider industry conversation.

Eligibility — FAQs
Who can apply for the salon awards?
Hair salons, beauty salons, nail studios, barbershops, blow-dry bars, and multi-service beauty concepts are all eligible.
Can a brand-new salon or business enter?
Yes — Best New Hair Salon Opening exists for properties under three years old, and most other categories have no minimum trading history.
Is it free to nominate for World Salon Awards 2027?
Yes. Submitting a nomination for World Salon Awards 2027 is free. No nomination charge applies.
Can I nominate myself, or does someone else have to nominate me?
Both are accepted. Self-nominations and third-party nominations are welcomed and assessed on the same criteria.
Is World Salon Awards open to salons and brands outside the Middle East?
Yes. World Salon Awards is genuinely global — hair salons, beauty salons, nail studios, barbershops, cosmetics brands and individual professionals from any country are eligible, with categories judged at city, country, regional and world level.
Is there a category for early-career professionals?
Yes — Rising Talent in Hair is open to professionals within their first five years of career.
Can international or multi-country salon chains enter?
Yes, at the level (city, country, regional or world) that fits the scope of the business.
Is the evaluation merit-based, or is there a public vote?
Evaluation is merit-based. An independent jury of beauty industry professionals scores each shortlisted nomination against the published criteria; sponsorship, advertising spend and gala ticket purchases have no influence on jury decisions.
Is there a limit on how many categories one business can enter?
No published limit exists; enter under whichever category or categories your evidence genuinely supports.
Can a business that's currently closed for renovation still be nominated?
Describe the situation in the nomination; ongoing operating status may affect which category or timing is most appropriate, and the research team can advise.
